The Nadas are a band from Iowa. Yes, they have been around long enough that if they were a car you would keep them covered in your garage except for sunny weekend cruising. But that isn't what is important about their story. What is important is that they make music that makes you feel things. Happy, sad, nostalgic, optimistic, energized, curious, inspired, and confused. The important part is that it makes you want to listen, and sometimes dance. 2018 will mark the 25th year of The Nadas. In January, they will be releasing their 11th studio record entitled "One Louder". At a stage where most bands would be resting on their laurels and letting others do the heavy lifting, The Nadas are out there swinging for the fences, driving the van and carrying their own instruments.

Carter Davis, a veteran who founded the charitable organization, Lift for the 22.  Carter, like so many veterans, suffered from PTSD, and his life was saved, literally, by going to the gym.  It was that close for him to make the wrong decision and his friends came over and got him out of the house and took him to the gym for an intense workout.  It saved and changed his life.  Lift for the 22 gives gym memberships to veterans all over the nation.  It has become a tightknit network for veterans who have the same issues as Carter endured.

 

We are planning a fundraising event consisting of Warrior Training Bootcamp at Pulse Fitness in Highland Park.  I would love to have Ana and crew at Pulse to learn about Lift for the 22 and the Bootcamp.  People will be paying $22 to participate in the Warrior Training Bootcamp on Saturday, January 6, 2018.  All the proceeds will go to Lift for the 22.

 

The trainer/coach for the Warrior Training is Patrick Murphy.  He is a former US Paratrooper and MMA fighter.

The Strange Cargo Story

A Chicago staple since 1983, Strange Cargo is the go-to place for custom t-shirts, Converse Chuck Taylors and Whoopee cushions. Way back in 1993 when Jay and Sheldon purchased the store it primarily sold vintage clothing and shoes. Ultimately, we started traveling the country, finding and bringing back the best in deadstock and vintage fashions. During our travels we came across a t-shirt shop that had been shuttered since the early 80's, so we purchased its contents and away we went, creating and customizing the best t-shirts in the city. In addition to our shirts we carry tons of other stuff, like women's clothing, accessories, Vans Classic, Asics-Tigers and, of course, tube socks. MERRY, MERRY CHICAGO! returns in its third year for six performances from December 15-23. A festive celebration of seasonal music, Merry, Merry Chicago takes place in the beautifully decorated Orchestra Hall and is perfect for audiences of all ages. This year’s program features Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and 160 voices from the acclaimed Chicago Children’s Choir. Special guest vocalist Ashley Brown and guest conductor Emil de Cou return this year after delighting audiences in last year’s program. Brown, who originated the title role of Mary Poppins on Broadway, is featured in unforgettable renditions of treasured classics such as “My Favorite Things” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Other program highlights include Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Rossini’s sparkling Overture to La Cenerentola and selections from the ballet Coppelia by Delibes, as well as a surprise visit from a jolly resident of the North Pole.
